I'm celebrating the rainy week. Several days of rain, but it wasn't too cold. The air is nice and fresh now and the scenery is greener. I love it! It's going to be hot next week, though. :o(
By accident, I found out about Skillshare this week. It's an online "school" where you pay as low as $8/month. You can watch tutorial videos on subjects like writing, film, art, photography, design, business, tech, etc. that are taught by experienced people. It's a step up from YouTube when it comes to learning a craft and how to market yourself. Once you pay the premium, you can watch any of the videos posted. There are hundreds of videos. It's like going to art school without the art school price. That's what they are touting. That sounds amazing to me. Plus, if you have a skill you want to teach, you can post your video tutorial there.
(Update on 4.4.18: Do not sign up for Skillshare. I read the reviews and apparently they are charging people for classes they didn't sign up for and it's impossible to cancel unless you cancel your credit card.)
I am also celebrating the show called The Chase. My husband discovered this show last weekend. We watched it for 10 hours straight until we were too tired to stay awake. That's the most I've watched TV in probably a decade. It's a game show that's like Jeopardy on speed.
I got a lot done this week on my webcomic. I drew my title in a vintage-style font, drew my main characters introducing them to the readers, drew and inked four panels, and did research on webhosting. I learned a lot this week about webhosting and marketing. Now I know where I want to post my comics. I need to post them in several places for more traffic until I get a contract.
It's so gratifying seeing my comic panels inked and ready to be colored. I really wanted to add watercolors to them, but realized that it's more practical to do it digitally. It's hard to change with technology. I was hanging on tightly to the idea of drawing and painting my comics by hand traditionally.
I had a drawing done on watercolor paper and was ready to paint it, but thought, what if I don't like the colors and want to change them? I would have to do the drawing and painting all over again. That's time consuming. It was so sad coming to the realization that I had to go digital, but at the same time it was a weight lifted off my shoulders. Now I know what direction I need to go in and I'm ready to take the next step.
There is still a 10% part of me that wants to make the watercolor work, but I'll have to try it with a super short, stand-alone comic.
I hope you had a productive week.
