Celebrate The Small Things - June 19

Every time I have a story idea, I log it into an Excel spreadsheet or into a notebook. This week, I got the idea to start an outline for some of the story ideas that I like better than others. My thought is to add more here and there whenever something pops into my head for each of these stories so that I'm not spending too much time on them in one sitting. By the time I'm finished with my current projects, I will be able to start on one of the stories full-time and the outline will be further along. This may be wishful thinking, but I'm hoping this works. I get stuck at certain parts of the stories as I'm sure every writer does. Good ideas don't come right away. Instead of staring at my computer wondering what will come next in my story, I can leave it and come back to insert an idea into my outline without having to rewrite my notes. Maybe other writers are already doing this, so perhaps I'm late in the game at figuring this out.

I was able to get a few more pages of my picture book dummy done this week. It's the size of a real book and I'm so excited about the way it's turning out. Last week, I showed my storyboard to my youngest son, but he didn't laugh as much as he did when he was a couple of years younger and I had shown him my scribbled ideas. I was disappointed and disturbed at his lack of enthusiasm, but today my oldest son looked at my book dummy and laughed at my "more finished" drawings. That was enough to keep me going.

Another thing to cheer about is making 2 sketchbooks with cloth covers and bookmarks out of the leftover board and material. I may never have to buy another sketchbook again since I can make my own now for a fraction of the cost. Yippee!

I managed to get a drawing posted on Illustration Friday before the deadline, but just barely. The topic was "Vacation" and here is the drawing:

Have a great weekend!
